Evidence given concerning derailment of 12 Noon London and North-Eastern express from Edinburgh to Carlisle on Jan. 3, 1931; while it may seem obvious that derailment was caused by excessive speed, there was also strong testimony to effect that speed was not higher than what is usually maintained over this section of line; that speed, however, has been considerably above limit laid down.
