Survey based on notes compiled over years and studies of steam cycle variabilities, takes into account both land power stations and marine propulsion; standard series conditions at combinations of 500, 700, 900 psia and 600, 800, 1000 F are adopted; while some of these combinations do not conform with established practice they do afford useful basis for comparison; synthesis of turbine and boiler, cost aspects, materials, and results for various ships are considered.
