The Quebec Bridge has the longest cantilever span in the world and is a monument to early railway bridge engineering. It opened 83 years ago to railway traffic. It has carried roadway traffic since 1928. A brief history of the bridge is presented. Its modifications and politics, the present condition of the bridge, details of the railway’s recent assessment strategy, and the current $60 million rehabilitation scheme are also examined.
