Analysis of problem at Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory employing air traffic model to obtain description of environment, nature of midair collision hazard, and evaluation of utility of various airborne systems for collision avoidance; it is found that greatest danger of collision or near miss results from encounters between pairs of aircraft wherein at least one of pair is in VFR (Visual Flight Rule) flight.
