WE are privileged to publish in this issue two papers of considerable importance to structural engineers. The one strikes at the very root of the stressing of the modern aeroplane and the underlying regulations; while the other, though more limited in scope, is none the less of great value to all employing timber, as it calls attention to the relative merits of different methods that are in common use for testing the impact-resistance quality of this material.
