This invention relates to a short circuit device to simulate the presence of a train in a secured section. This has a cable with at both ends a connection clamp, for temporary connection to a rail. Along the length of the cable there is a housing containing electronics. The clamp has a latch to avoid unauthorised removal from the rail. The clamp has a switchable biassing device to increase the force with which the contact points are pressed onto the rail. The clamp is further designed such that the ends of two leads are mutually isolated, when the clamp is not connected to a rail, while the ends of the two leads are mutually electrically connected through the rail, if the clamp is mounted to the rail.
