A control system 110 for a vehicle 100 comprises one or more controllers (111, Fig 3) and is configured to receive (3, Fig 5) a result (5, Fig 5) of an impairment test via wireless communication from a portable electronic device 200. The portable device 200 is authorised to remotely control one or more vehicle operations. If the result (5, Fig 5) is below a limit indicating impairment, the control system 110 is configured to enable (9, Fig 5) torque production for performing a vehicle operation, such as autonomous parking, requested by the portable electronic device 200. If the result (5, Fig 5) is above a limit indicating impairment, the control system 110 can be configured to prevent (11, Fig 5) torque production for performing the requested vehicle operation. The impairment test can comprise alcohol detection.
