Sensors with an infrared camera system (2) detect temperature distribution on the surface of rails needing to be tested after the lapse of a time span when the rail has been heated up with a device (1). DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for the following: (A) A device for non-contact detection of defective spots on a railway's rails or points components; (B) and for a rail vehicle with a device for non-contact detection of defective points on a railway's rails or points components. USE - For non-contact detection of defective points on a railway's rails or points components. ADVANTAGE - Reliable detection is possible for rail defects near the surface. High detection speed can be achieved, so that testing of operationally used rails can be done with minimum restrictive reaction to current tensile functions.
