The increase of oil price has become a global long-term trend. Major automotive manufactures started to put more resources in the research and development of new energy vehicles. Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) which consists of internal combustion engine and electric machine can overcome the disadvantages of these components using power management control strategy, such that the engine can be operated in the highly efficient region. Thus enhance the efficiency of energy usage and increase the cruising distance of the vehicle. The automotive industries in Taiwan are currently developing the HEV equipped with Belt-driven Starter Generator (BSG). The power management control strategy will be developed for BSG-HEV in this paper. Equivalent fuel consumption minimization is used to design the proposed adaptive power management control strategy, such that fuel consumption can be effectively reduced for different driving patterns. Self-organizing fuzzy controller is used to adaptively adjust the equivalence factor which is used to convert the electric power usage to equivalent fuel consumption. A cost function of instantaneous fuel consumption is minimized to obtain the optimum power split between the BSG and engine.
