An account is given of calculations on energy consumption within the Danish transportation sector, and of carbon dioxide emission and air pollution from this source. The results of these calculations show that the 1990 goals for air pollution abatement related to the transportation sector cannot be achieved unless special action is taken. This is significantly the case with respect to carbon dioxide emission. The aim of the report is thus to describe possible methods for the reduction of CO(sub 2) emission from vehicles etc. One of the methods is the use of taxation. The increase in the need for the transport of persons during the period 1988-2010 is reckoned and the influence of economic growth is discussed. (AB)
