The impact of Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) to the daily rainfall over western Java based on 314 rain gauges is characterized in this study. MJO significantly modulates daily rainfall over most locations in western Java, mainly during wet season (October to April). In wet season, MJO dominates sub-seasonal rainfall variability mainly over the middle-to-south region. In this region, MJO enhances rainfall during its active phases (2-4). While the other two regions (northeast and northwest) experienced rainfall enhancement during the non-active phases of MJO (4-8). In the dry season (May to September), MJO has significantly suppressed rainfall over most of western Java mainly during its non-active phases (6-8).
