To this date, one of the limiting factors in increasing the service speed and the maximum speed of trains, which directly affect the profit of the railway company, is the braking efficiency. The article considers the process of braking force formation and presents the main formulas. After analyzing the formulas, a new coefficient is proposed – the coefficient of shoe pressure reserve. This factor served as the basis for the development of the principle of adaptive brake pressure control, through which it is proposed to increase the braking efficiency of passenger trains and to eliminate the locking of the wheelset in the braking process. This principle implies taking into account the fact that the friction coefficient between the shoe and the wheel depends on the speed and, in the future, on the temperature of the shoe and the wheel tread in the braking process. Thus, depending on the change in the friction coefficient between the shoe and the wheel and the wheel-rail adhesion coefficient, the optimal shoe pressing on the wheel is selected to ensure the most efficient braking without the threat of the wheelset locking. The problem of the influence of the shoe temperature and the wheel tread on the change in the friction coefficient is currently being actively studied. As a result, an adaptive braking pressure control device, its flow chart, has been developed. The proposed device is integrated into the diagram of a two-wire circuit to control the electro-pneumatic brakes of the passenger train.
