The West Nusa Tenggara region is one of the areas that often experience drought in Indonesia. Mitigation and adaptation efforts for hydro-meteorological disasters must be carried out. The lack of observation data is one obstacle where the climate data in this region is incomplete. Satellite data such as TRMM 3B43 is one of the mainstays in estimating drought events both spatially and temporally. This study aims to estimate the incidence of drought temporally and spatially by using TRMM 3B43 input data and the method of determining drought with SPI. In determining the actual rainfall, the performance of TRMM 3B43 is quite good, especially in Bima and Kediri. However, TRMM 3B43 tends not to explain extreme wet weather events in the case of rainfall in Bima and Kediri. In case of the calculation of drought with SPI-3 with rainfall input data of TRMM 3B43 showing performance that is not too good in estimating drought events compared to SPI-3 with input data of observation data. This is probably because the performance of TRMM 3B43 is not good enough in estimating extreme wet conditions and because SPI uses gamma probabilities in estimating its drought conditions, so the distribution probability cannot explain that drought condition. For spatial case, TRMM 3B43 also is not enough to explain the occurrence of drought in the West Nusa Tenggara.
