The experimental laser facility based on high‐power CO2 laser is briefly described. The facility can be used for high‐average‐power experiments on laser propulsion. The closed loop gas recirculation system of the laser and its specific design provide the output pulse energy up to 5kJ at pulse duration of up to 45 microseconds, the repetition rates from 1 to 200 Hz and the output burst duration up to 120 seconds. The experiments carried out in MOPA configuration of the laser demonstrate the radiant intensity of the laser beam up to 1.4 TW/sr for 3kJ output at 30‐microsecond pulse duration.
