In order to construct signalized intersections which are more in line with the actual traffic operation mechanism we propose a new traffic flow model for intersections which is a hybrid between the classical cellular automata and the other microscopic traffic models, using continuous cellular automata to analyze the influence of driver heterogeneity and split. This continuity allows us embed a multiple car following model to simulate different car-following behaviors. The experimental results show that our model is able to reproduce the typical traffic flow phenomena with a variety of effects due to the heterogeneity within traffic stream.
