This paper researched the different types of bogies from traditional train to metro, lineal motor metro, light rail, tram, mono rail tram, maglev, monorail, H-Bahn, self-guiding new vehicles, etc., and attempted to present a new approach to comparing the different bogie types in the same scale, which is based on the features of Basic Functional Units (BFUs), such as supporting, guiding, propelling or braking system of the bogie. The result could be used as a technical reference or suggestion for the selection of the vehicle bogie type in the pre-planning of rail transit projects in the future.
