Based on the coupling mechanism between the electrical and mechanical impedances of structure, intelligent piezoelectric sensors are used to monitor the structural health. In a certain frequency range, piezoelectric sensors are sensitive in the variations of electrical impedance of the structure, which in turn indicate physical changes in the structure. This paper presents an impedance-based structural health monitoring (SHM) circuits with telecommunication capabilities. Meanwhile, circuits are improved using microcontroller unit and direct digital synthesis (DDS) technique. It is hoped that the piezoelectric intelligent sensor circuits can be attached to a structure for real-time remote structural health monitoring.
