To meet the requirements of the increasing traffic demands nowadays, there exists a growing need for transportation management systems which can be achieved through the applications of Internet of things (IOT). This paper focuses on how to evaluate the adaptability application of IOT in transportation management. First, the evaluation index system of the adaptability of IOT is proposed based on key elements analyses of IOT in transportation. It includes road traffic capacity, energy and environment, transportation safety, management efficiency, and technology application. Then, analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is used to define the index weights of the evaluation index system, and an improved evaluation index model is built to assess the adaptability of IOT in transportation management. Finally, a city in Gansu Province is taken as a case to evaluate the adaptability application of IOT in the urban traffic management, as well as to verify the feasibility and practicability of the model. Finally, some effective and feasible development suggestions are put forward based on the evaluation results.
