Holidays have been found to have a large impact on travelers’ mobility patterns. Understanding the holiday effects on airport landside passenger volume is important to prepare access mode services and manage landside traffic. However, the effects have little been investigated in the literature. This study analyzed the data from daily landside passenger volumes collected from year 2012 to 2014 at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport Terminal 2. A SARIMAX model for passenger volume prediction was used to quantify the holiday effects, and the results indicated that passenger volume decreases during holiday period. A comparison between SARIMAX and SARIMA model is presented to compare accuracies and it is shown that the SARIMAX model is capable of interpreting both internal and external influences on passenger volume prediction.
