In order to reduce rear-end accidents caused by driver distraction and driver fatigue, this paper applies vehicle tail light recognition technology as a means for improving safety. According to the geometric characteristics of vehicle tail lights and vehicle tail light position, the specific location of the vehicle tail light in an image is determined using HSV image space conversion. The statistic values of the various components of vehicle tail light states H, S, and V are obtained using the above method. According to the statistical results, the threshold of each component can be detected in real time and the status of the front of the vehicle can be detected in an effort to reduce accidents.
