Modern trams have gradually been applied to the public transportation in China due to its features in humanity, efficiency, ecology, and environmental protection. In the initial stage of development, however, there are still many problems that occur in terms of function-orientation, route selection in initial implementation, construction standards, and project cost, because of the lack of guidance in the aspect of practical experience, technical standards, and criteria. Based on the analysis and thinking on modern trams that have been built or are being built in China, this paper provides discussion on key problems that have occurred in the development and application of trams and puts forward its development trend.
