Based on the idea of the M3 model, this paper constructs the corresponding headway distribution models under different traffic flow conditions (smooth/slow/congested) and establishes the ternary mixed headway distribution model. The chi square test is used to verify the models. On this basis, the paper analyzes the influence of the factors as the sections, road infrastructures and traffic flow conditions on headway distribution, and obtains the following conclusions: (1) the corresponding single headway frequency distribution models under different traffic flow conditions differ from each other; (2) for the sections with physical separations, the sections have no obvious influence on the headway frequency distribution; and (3) traffic flow conditions have large impacts on the headway frequency of roads that allow two-way crossover.
