For left-turning vehicles at intersection, traditional control strategies are most often set to a dedicated left-turn phase or to prohibit left turns. The former increases the waiting time of traffic flow in all directions, the latter increases detour distance of left-turning vehicles. To limit the influence of left-turning vehicles at an intersection, this paper proposes a control scheme that sets left-turn lanes outside of straight lanes, that allows left-turning vehicles to complete turning through left-turn lanes without increasing detour distance or waiting time of traffic flow in all directions.
