This paper aims to analyse the energy consumption (EC) of high-speed train (HST) during its operating duty circle, and the traction calculation technology in transportation discipline is highly depended. The operating force of the running HST is analysed in detail, and the motion equations are solved. Furthermore, the EC model is established with the motion process. Then, various factors, such as traction strategy, limited speed, etc. are discussed to evaluate their influence on EC. Several case studies are presented. The simulation results show that the energy consumed in time-saving mode and energy-saving mode is about 10.318 kWh/km and 9.274 kWh/km, respectively. The energy is consumed mainly in resistance aspect, traction drive system and braking, and resistance aspect is the largest consumer, counting about 50%. The EC and the average speed present a quadratic relationship, and the effect of gradient becomes significant in steep segment.
