In Poland the climatic conditions in the autumn and winter season are particularly severe for concrete infrastructure. Concrete’s resistance to frost and chemical deicing agents determine the durability of cement concrete pavement. An increase in the premature deterioration of airfield pavements exposed to new generation deicing chemicals may suggest that there is a relation between the damages and the application of the deicers. The paper presents selected results of microstructural analysis of the airfield pavements concrete exposed to the deicers based on acetates and formates. Microscopic evaluation was carried out with the scanning electron microscope (SEM). The local chemical compositions of the phases of interest were performed using the Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX).
