Corrosion protection system developed at BAC, Weybridge, was introduced on Vanguard aircraft and remained in use up to VC10 and BA C 1-11 aircraft; system represented complete change from previous ones, in materials and methods of application; basic concept using polyamide-cured epoxy material, and design factors of corrosion protection scheme which has been conceived to protect aircraft structure without major repair for first line service life of aircraft, that is 10 yr or 30 to 40,000 flying hr; pretreatment, selection and control of materials, detail application, assembly of structure, and application of external decor; probable developments.
