Avco Lycoming engines operated for short periods on emulsified JP-4, and fuel sensitive components were tested; indications are that atomizing combustor versions of these engines will operate satisfactorily with emulsions which are not corrosive, and can readily be de-emulsified in passing through fuel system; with present emulsions, operational envelope of current engine models will probably be reduced; more testing is required before engine can be considered operationally flightworthy on emulsified fuel, but there is reason to believe that chances for success are good.
