Rate of progress in all fields of aviation is determined by ability of state of art technology to provide equipment able to operate reliably under severe environmental conditions; various parameters of flight are discussed in relation to ideal proving ground simulation of real conditions; description of high altitude jet engine test plant at Lucas Gas Turbine Equipment Ltd and tests carried out, e.g. combustion system testing, high temperature fuel testing, low temperature fuel test plant, hot and cold air facilities, vibration equipment, dirt testing, gravity testing with centrifuge rig, fire testing, and rate of climb test plant.
