Problem of designing inlet for air-breathing propulsion systems (scramjet) is aggravated by viscous flow effects; four methods of analysis for determining flowfields of inlets for real or perfect gases are inviscid flowfield analysis, inviscid flow-field analysis with boundary-layer displacement thickness, inviscid flowfield analysis with boundary-layer displacement thickness and streamline absorption, and combined viscous and inviscid flowfield analysis; results of methods are used to show their various effects on inlet performance predictions for supersonic and hypersonic flight regimes.
