To reduce amount of firing on 2-10-0 locomotives of former Northern Railway of France which work coal trains between northern coal fields and Paris, French National Railways have fitted mechanical stokers to 7 engines of this class; coal transferred from tender by archimedean screw, enclosed in trough shaped casing; stoker system can feed 1 ton of coal per sq m of grate surface per hr, making output 3 1/2 tons per hr; stoker also fitted to two 4.6.2 express locomotives.
