Attempt made to design cargo ship which would provide maximum economy of operation combined with simplicity, and low fixed and maintenance charges; estimated length oa 445 ft, beam molded 5.7 ft 6 in., depth to upper deck 39 ft 6 in.; propelled by cross-compound turbines and double-reduction gears developing 6000 shp at 105 rpm; considerable volume provided for refrigerated cargo space.
