Survey reviews composition, location, intensity, angular and energy distributions, temporal variations, and interrelationships of energetic particles in space emphasizing background necessary to estimate and to protect man against natural radiation hazards in space; estimates of these hazards to manned space travel are given on basis of best measurement available; uncertainty arising from extrapolation of spectral data is avoided by restriction of calculations of absorbed dose rates to observed energy regions.
