Importance of human engineering is shown in simple example of adding machine, with all questions which should enter into its design; goals of human engineering are easy operation, faster operation, fewer errors, fewer accidents, less complicated requirements for operators, less training, all ultimately resulting in need for fewer men to do job; examples are given.
