Study investigates dynamic effects of affixing components, such as electronic equipment, to cylindrical walls of large, Saturn-type launch vehicles; approximate energy method for determining natural frequencies and mode shapes of pressurized circular cylinders with equally spaced flexible stringers and attached point mass is presented; comparisons of predicted results with test data, obtained from experiments, are made revealing that any weight addition to thin-walled cylinder, even if it is very light, can evoke highly localized response in vicinity of attachment; effect can significantly lower system's fundamental frequency.
