Control of divergence in Kalman filter used for autonomous navigation in low earth orbit is investigated; system studied utilizes stellar-referenced angle-sightings to sequence of known terrestrial landmarks; Kalman filter is used to compute differential corrections to spacecraft position, spacecraft velocity, and landmark location; variety of filter modifications for control of divergence was investigated; principal numerical results are presented in graphs of magnitude of error in estimated position and velocity vs time for 16 orbits.
