Engineering tradeoffs of one-versus two-gas systems; evaluation of physiological considerations which set boundaries for physical environment within cabin; engineering analysis review of interaction between physiological and hardware parameters of environmental control system; attempt is made to compare for each subsystem effect of several physiologically acceptable gas mixtures on weight and power penalties for missions of different types and durations; tradeoff criteria established are used in analysis of typical mission-two-man orbiting vehicle; results of tradeoff analyses are compared to demonstrate sensitivity of final product to physical, physiological, and engineering assumptions which were made.
