U-shaped tank, consisting of two reservoirs with slightly inclining outside walls and connected by means of conduit, is considered as passive anti-rolling device for ships; fluid motion in tank caused by harmonically rolling ship is described mathematically and expressed in moment which is exerted on ship by tank fluid; to determine optimum tank dimensions, rolling motion of ship model, equipped with U-tank, is also analyzed for regular waves; mathematical results were verified with experiments.
