Routing of cars between yards is treated as separate problem and formulated in general form by means of mathematical model of excessive magnitude; it is shown how by introducing some simplifications, it is possible to arrive at realistic model of magnitude; formulation makes use of non-Boolean decision variables; with linear programming based on integer numbers, it is possible to find solution for problem of routing cars from one marshaling yard to another and for problem of distribution of empty cars between different yards.
