Basic designs prepared by Trident Offshore, Netherlands N.V. are 90 m hull for use as drilling platform and 40 m hull suitable for duty either as supply tender or multipurpose craft; design concept is based on principle of submarine, lying at periscope depth; carrying capacity is derived from submerged submarine-like hulls; two hulls are connected by broad flat deck, underside of which will not normally be touched by waves; two underwater winglike structures fore and aft also link hulls; first vessel is Duplus, built by Boele's Scheepswerven en Machinefabriek N.V. for Netherlands Offshore Co N.V., for coastal and seabed engineering duties; diagram.
