Note on vessels used on Mississippi, Missouri, and Ohio Rivers; during 1948, 65 new Diesel boats ranging from 110- to 5400-hp, were placed in service on rivers; no new steamboats were placed in service; development of high speed tows consisting of towboat and two or more matched barges, intended to operate at much higher speed than typical river tow, was continued.
