Note on vessels used on Mississippi, Missouri, and Ohio Rivers; during 1948, 65 new Diesel boats ranging from 110- to 5400-hp, were placed in service on rivers; no new steamboats were placed in service; development of high speed tows consisting of towboat and two or more matched barges, intended to operate at much higher speed than typical river tow, was continued. From June 1949 Proc, Merchant Mar Council, U S Coast Guard.
