Vessel, originally known as Taverton, built at Todd-Houston Shipyards, conforms to general specifications of Maritime Commission's T1-M-BT2; originally scheduled for delivery to Great Britain under Lend Lease, ship was laid up in reserve fleet at Beaumont, Tex, and after about 1 yr was bought by Standard Oil Co of Calif, and renamed Chevron; length oa 325 ft 2 in.; beam 48 ft 2 in.; powered by Nordberg 6-cyl Diesel engine developing 1400 bhp at 272-rpm.
