Free piston gas generator is fundamentally single cylinder unit in which two opposed pistons operate as balanced pendulums of infinite radius with fuel burned between them every time they come together, as in opposed piston Diesel engine, for specific purpose of generating gas at high temperature and pressure suitable for use in gas turbine; real heat cycle is not completed until generated gas is expanded in gas turbine; diagrammatic drawings.
