Illustrated description of welding repair carried out on steamship struck on port bow in collision with steamship W. J. Riddle; extensive damage was caused due to bows of colliding vessel penetrating some 20 ft into hull; hand welding was adopted; all girders and beams were fabricated in machine shops and transported to ship; edges were machined in accordance with normal welding procedure.
