Constructional details; structure provides berth for oil tankers in close proximity to oil refinery; constructed as war time measure, site was chosen primarily to present as great difficulty as possible to enemy submarines attempting to pursue vessels to berth; jetty was exposed to Irish Sea at High Tide and was liable to sudden on-shore gales; special dolphins and fendering arrangements on jetty head were adopted in this exposed position and appear satisfactory for vessels catered for.
