Designed primarily for heavy mountain service, 11,000-v, 25-cycle, single phase motor generator locomotive, two of which were built by General Electric Co for Great Northern, has continuous rating of 5000 hp at rail, with tractive effort of 119,000 lb at speed of 15.75 mph; continuous bhp provided through regenerative braking is about 5750 between 16.5 and 65 mph.
