RAE's system has all advantages of V-type pattern and appears to be based on better principle; system takes into account more accurately what pilot needs in way of lights when approaching to land with SCS-51 or some other navigational aid; apart from provision of horizon level at regular intervals, cross-bars are placed so that they provide optical illusion of being same width provided descent is being made at constant rate.
