Methods of calculation whereby time and distance required to attain any desired speed can be readily determined for any ship for which principal resistance characteristics are known; acceleration of four representative ship types has been investigated and is shown in some instances; length of approach should be greater than that used in measured mile trials; results of full scale trials.
