Great Northern effects substantial economies in renewing ties by equipping small district maintenance gang with special tools and machines that simplify operation; machines are light enough to be removed quickly from track to allow rail traffic to pass; equipment of gang consists of two tie cutters, tie end remover, spiking machine, push car, and various small tools.
