Laying 6600 ft 24 in. pipe line at depths over 100 ft under Narrows of New York harbor presented difficulties because of tidal current and harbor traffic; failure of first attempt because of leakage; preparatory to pipe laying underwater trench was furrowed out, 25 ft below bed of narrows.
