Most powerful Diesel engine ever built in Australia was recently completed in Port Melbourne by Commonwealth Government Marine Engine Works; first of six under construction for series of 6000 ton "B " class standard cargo motorships; 4-cyl unit developing 2800 bhp at 110 rpm; 56LB4 welded frame type having four 560 mm bore cylinders with combined piston stroke of 2160 mm; automatic welding employed.
